What is the Selby Education Foundation?
SEF is an independent; community based non-profit organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors, made up of leaders from all segments of the community. SEFís mission is to improve Selby Lane School, which serves portions of Redwood City and approximately 25% of Atherton for preschool through 8th grade.
Why does Selby need an Education Foundation?
Outstanding neighboring public schools have demonstrated for over 20 years that education foundations are essential in creating and maintaining high academic standards and providing educational enrichment. By providing community directed use of donations, education foundations achieve outstanding results. The Selby Education Foundation is central to the continuous improvement of Selby Lane School.
How will Selby Education Foundation support excellence at Selby Lane School?
SEF is working in partnership with the Redwood City School District, the teachers, staff, principals, the community, and parents of Selby students to specifically target needs. The District and SEF are committed to raising Selbyís academic standing to match or surpass other distinguished schools. As a community, we need to act upon this extraordinary window of opportunity. SEF has two main priorities: the implementation and support of the International Baccalaureate Organizationís Standards and academic intervention.
What is the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO)?
The IBO is an organization that sets and monitors standards for top academic achievement and enrichment. Becoming an IBO school will provide private school quality education at Selby Lane School. SEF also expects the IBO standards to substantially increase test scores.
What is academic intervention?
Academic intervention is the concerted effort to address the needs of children who are functioning below grade level and work to significantly raise their skill level.
